A convenience store clerk is recovering after being stabbed multiple times during a robbery attempt in Salina.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday at a Kwik Shop store in the 2000 block of South Ohio.
Salina Police say a man walked in, jumped the counter, then demanded money from the clerk before stabbing him repeatedly in the face and neck. The suspect then left without taking anything.
Officers responded to the scene and saw a car matching the description less than half a block away. Police initiated a traffic stop and the man was taken into custody after a brief struggle with officers.
The suspect, 22-year-old Alexander Phouthavong, was booked on several charges, including aggravated battery, attempted aggravated robbery and felony obstruction.
Police have identified the victim as 49-year-old Charles Howard. He is still being treated at a Salina hospital with cuts to his face and neck as well as a broken jaw. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
