A man accused of robbing a bank in Kansas and firing shots at a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper made a first court appearance Friday morning.

Jason Michael Gleason, 30, was charged with 14 crimes, including attempted murder. A complaint filed in Saline County Court show the following charges. One count of attempted first degree murder, four counts of attempted second degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of criminal discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle, one count for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and four counts of kidnapping.

Authorities believe Gleason robbed the First Bank of Chase in Rice County Tuesday morning, and later led a trooper on a high speed chase in Saline County. Shots were fired after the SUV crashed. Gleason ran from the scene and was later arrested.

Four other people were in Gleason's vehicle at the time, a woman and three juveniles. The woman and one of the children were injured. Court documents identified the woman as Crystal Bell.

A trooper, identified as Ryan Wolting, suffered injuries by flying glass when shots were being fired toward his patrol car.

Department of Corrections records show Gleason was released from prison in June after serving eight years for robbery. Reno County authorities also arrested Gleason late last week for failure to appear and for trying to get contraband into the jail.

Judge Rene Young set his bond at $1 million with the condition that Gleason may not contact the five alleged victims.

The judge granted a public defender for Gleason. Gleason will appear before Judge Young on Oct. 15th.
