Two people were seriously injured in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon in Chase County.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. yesterday on Highway 50 about 8 miles east of Strong City. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, an eastbound Ford F-150 went left of center and hit a westbound Toyota Camry head on.

The driver of the F-150, 74-year-old James Gaeddert of Leawood, was taken by Life Flight to a Topeka hospital. The other driver, Brenda Coursen of Halstead, was first taken by ambulance to an Emporia hospital, then flown to a Wichita hospital for further treatment.

It's unclear why Gaeddert crossed the center line. The accident remains under investigation.
