A Wichita native with strong ties to the Air Capital has died.

Velma Wallace's family said the former Cessna first lady died overnight

She was born and raised in Wichita where she graduated from Wichita Business College. She then joined Cessna Aircraft Company as executive secretary where she met and later married Dwane Wallace.

The couple established the Dwane L. and Velma L. Wallace Endowment, which supports scholarships for engineering students and provides funds for the College of Engineering. The scholars program has benefited more than 200 students.

Mrs. Wallace also gave $10 million to Exploration Place to cement its existence in Wichita.
