Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer will return to China next week for the opening of the Wichita-China Aviation Office in support of expanded trade opportunities for Wichita’s aviation industry.

The opening of the Aviation Office is part of the Global Air Capital Program implemented by Kansas Global Trade Services (KGTS), a Wichita-based trade promotion organization. Karyn Page, KGTS president, will accompany Mayor Brewer on the weeklong trip.

The Wichita-China Aviation Office said its mission is to promote the Wichita aviation industry in China and identify sales and partner opportunities.

"As mayor of the Air Capital of the World, I am committed to supporting our aviation manufacturers as they compete in this important market," Mayor Brewer said. "We need to be in the game of international trade, and this trip reflects our dedication to helping Wichita companies expand their export opportunities."

The development of the Global Air Capital Program is the product of the Mayor's previous visit to China in 2012 when he led a contingent of local officials to explore aviation opportunities in China.

During the 2012 visit, the Wichita delegation met with key government and business officials in six Chinese cities.

"Those conversations convinced us that the Chinese recognize Wichita as the general aviation leader," Mayor Brewer said. "This opens an opportunity to support Wichita's aviation industry efforts by marketing the Air Capital of the World in China."

The Wichita-China Aviation Office is currently funded by private sponsors in China and Wichita. Oversight of the office is managed by KGTS.

While in China, the Wichita contingent will also visit the China International General Aviation Convention in Xi'an. The convention attracts industry and government leaders from around China, as well as Wichita manufacturers such as Cessna Aircraft Company and Beechcraft Corporation.

A highlight of the convention includes a ceremony to note the delivery of a Beechcraft King Air C90 aircraft to the Civil Aviation University of China.
