WICHITA, Kan. - A big airline is shifting some of its airport jobs to outside companies - and one of the airports affected by the switch is Wichita Mid-Continent.
United Airlines is shifting to outsourcing, when it comes to check-in and baggage handling. Our media partner the Wichita Business Journal confirms Wichita is one of 12 cities where United is making this change to save money. The savings could be as much as $3.5 million a year.
Machinists Union jobs are affected by the change. But people losing jobs can seek other positions at United, or will receive severance pay.
It's not clear how many jobs in Wichita have been outsourced. But more than 600 workers are affected nationwide, and the change comes to more than 50 people per airport.
