Spirit Aerosystems is announcing the company's desire to sell its facilities in Tulsa and McAlester, Oklahoma.
Spirit was scheduled to release its 2nd quarter financial results Tuesday but postponed those full results until completion of an auditor's review.
Spirit warning of a $350-$400 million charge related to the Gulfstream programs. The facilities in Oklahoma build wing structures including for the Gulfstream programs.
Spirit CEO Larry Lawson says, "The Oklahoma sites are performing well today and improving. We have and continue to dedicate our top resources to those sites and are not letting up the intensity of what we are achieving at the Oklahoma sites. But at this point in time it's worth determining if there's a better owner for these sites that's interested in growing in this market space. They may have synergies in the supply chain, fabrication or similar contract leverage."
Lawson says, "If we turn out to be the best owner we will be proud to own it and we will continue to march towards delivering world class results."
