WICHITA, Kan. -- If everything goes as the US Air Force wants, McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita will start receiving the new KC-46A tankers in 2016.
But Thursday base airmen got a bit of sneak peek at what they'll be flying and maintaining as Boeing brought by its KC-46A Simulator Demonstration Trailer.
Inside on one side of the trailer base personnel could experience the plane's flight deck while the other side had the air refueling operator station.
Lt. Col. Andrew Martin is an instructor pilot in the 350th refueling squadron. Regarding the KC-46A Lt. Col. Martin says it will have "more capability, more mission capability than what it has right now, better avionics, less maintenance down time. It's going to be a fantastic air frame and we're definitely excited to get it when we get it."
If everything goes as planned the base should start receiving the first of 36 KC-46 tankers in 2016 for three squadrons.
