WICHITA, Kan. -- From a bomb plot to confiscating a loaded weapon to a perimeter breach, the airport has been busy thwarting threats the past two months.

"It's been quite a rash and we hope we're done with that," said Assistant Director of Airports Brad Christopher.

Many passengers are surprised and concerned about the recent incidences.

"I really can't believe it. Wichita is generally so quiet, and then to have so many incidences at the airport in such a short time, it's really shocking," said passenger Beverly Whitman.

But Airport Authority is applauding security, saying all of the threats have been stopped before escalating.

"I certainly wouldn't minimize those, but that's why we have the system that we do," Christopher said. "The layers of security, and the system has worked and we hope things will go back to normal."

While Christopher would not go into detail about security procedures or comment on whether security has been increased, he did say it is constantly reviewed.

"We would be remiss or delinquent in our duties if we weren't continuously evaluating certain occurrences, and finding ways to improve," Christopher said.

And for Whitman, that information brings peace of mind, even though there has been a sudden spike in threats at Mid-Continent.

"In relation to other places, Wichita still seems very safe and very quiet," Whitman said. "And it seems that they're always catching the guys that are doing the bad things."
