A top Airbus official visited Wichita on Tuesday to deliver some welcome news for local workers. Speaking at the Wichita Aero Club, president and CEO of Airbus Americas Barry Eccleston told workers the company expects to almost double its supply base in North America, which means there's a chance for the Airbus Wichita supply chain to grow as a result.
Eccleston says this news is a message to state and city leaders that they'll have to be active in landing aerospace work. He says the latest data for the next twenty years is evidence of North America's diminishing importance in the marketplace.
"So Europe and the USA, which are today the world's dominant airplane markets, will be superseded by Asia and the Pacific and in particular China, but also the Middle East and also Latin America," said Eccleston.
Wichita's Old Town is home to Airbus North American Engineering, which employs 300 people.
