Today marks the first day of a two-week plant wide shutdown at Wichita's Spirit Aerosystems.

The maker of large airplane parts, primarily for Boeing, extended its regularly scheduled holiday vacation by three days because of the machinists' strike.

Meanwhile, in the Seattle area, Boeing's assembly lines will remain open through the end of the year. Boeing is still catching up on plane production after the 57-day-strike shut down their assembly lines.
