Union Fears Major Loss Of Jobs

Hawker Beechcraft and Machinist Union negotiators will meet for the fifth time on Tuesday. The major topic will be how to keep work in Wichita rather than outsourcing it to other states and countries.

Wichita aircraft workers are feeling pressure like perhaps they’ve never felt before. Not only have they seen more than half their co-workers laid off over the last couple of years, but also, they hear of companies entertaining offers from other states.

Union leaders say Louisiana is aggressively pursuing Hawker Beechcraft jobs. .

"Right down the road at Hawker Beech. We're trying to keep our jobs here instead of sending them to Louisiana," Machinist Union District President Steve Rooney said. "Louisiana has now tripled their offer to steal our jobs from us."

The union claims everyday some of Hawker's jobs leave Wichita and Salina plants. Union negotiators say they want to present an economic package to the company when they meet again on Tuesday.”
