Six dogs are killed, and hundreds of acres of Wheat go up in flames in Sumner County.
Firefighters from several agencies battled the wheat field fire south of Wellington around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters say the hot, dry and windy conditions fueled the fire that burned approximately 250 acres of standing wheat and stubble. Several sheds and farm equipment were also lost in the blaze. Six greyhound dogs were also killed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to fire officials, but residents say they believe roadwork equipment may have started the fire.
