Farmers looking to go organic will now have extra help. New provisions in the 2008 Farm Bill will allow farmers to apply for financial assistance of up to twenty-thousand dollars a year, or eighty-thousand dollars over six years.

Although help has always been available, the new provisions set aside specific funds to assist organic producers. Applications are taken throughout the year, but to be considered for the 2009 fiscal year, producers must turn in their signed application by April 10th.

For more information, you can contact your local USDA office, or you can visit the following web site: http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/eqip/
