Let's face it. We all hate fees. Just give me a straight price for things.
Stacy Johnson with Money Talks News feels the same way. He's composed a list of 10 of the worlds most insulting fees and how to beat them.
Here is a portion of his list:
1. Checked baggage fees. Most major carriers charge $25 to check one suitcase. To get around this, fly Southwest or Jetblue - who don't charge this fee. Some airlines allow you to avoid the fee by using their branded credit cards.
2. Rental cars CDW. The CDW or Collision Damage Waiver can cost as much as $25 or more a day. But if you have full insurance coverage on your car, you're probably covered for rentals. Using certain credit cards also gives you coverage. Check with your insurance company before you travel.
3. Credit card rates. Avoid those rates of 15% or more by not carrying a balance from month to month. Pay off the bill when due. Shop around for a card with a lower rate. Or call your credit card company and negotiate a lower rate. They want your business.
4. Hotel resort fees. These are fees tacked on to your room rate for amenities like newspapers, internet access, use of the pool or other items that can add as much as $30 a night to your bill. To avoid these fees, ask when you make your reservation what extra fees are involved and request that in print so there are no surprises.
These are just some of the fees Stacy mentions in his article.
