Two Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad locomotives have been stopped in their tracks thanks to thieves.

K&O's Jimmy Patterson says Monday morning, engineers discovered huge packs of batteries stolen out of two of the engines while they were sitting in the rail yard.

"We're looking at $8,000 to $10,000 each case, " said Patterson. "The time and effort to put them back in, and we can't run those locomotives until we get those replaced."

This isn't the first time either. He says back in January the same thing happened. Someone is stealing the 300 pound batteries from the locomotives at night, leaving the railroad in a tough spot.

"It's not only a loss to our company but to the guys and gals that are working," said Patterson. "They are now at a standstill till we get this replaced.'

Police are investigating both cases.
