Expansion is about to get underway for Koch Industries' new headquarters, which will include a partial relocation of 37th Street.
The company announced their intentions to expand late last year, and said today that they've hired Hutton Construction of Wichita along with other local companies to assist with the project.
The project includes construction of a new 210,000-square-foot office building on the northwest side of the campus on 37th Street between Oliver and Hillside. The new 3-story building will add to their already 1,025,000-square-foot headquarters, and will be able to accommodate about 750 employees. Construction is set to begin this fall and to be complete by mid-2015.
Before work on the new building can begin, 37th Street North between Hillside and Oliver will be moved about a quarter mile north of its current location. Work to reroute 37th will begin in mid-June, but the current street will remain open until the new one is complete in October. The cost of moving 37th is being paid by Koch.
“We’re working closely with the City to make these changes as seamless as possible for people traveling 37th Street," said Craig Highfill, vice president for facilities solutions for Koch Business Solutions.
The company says this is the first phase of a long-term master plan to handle potential future growth for the Wichita-based Koch. The multi-year project is expected to transform the 100-acre campus to a 180-acre complex.
