Skywalkers Gym Remember Sammy Kaye Ewertz

Just days after the gymanasts of Skywalkers Trampoline and Tumbling Academy took home 6 junior olympics medals from the annual national tournament in California, all victories were overshadowed by their loss. On the return trip to Wichita, Sammy Kaye Ewertz passed away from injuries suffered in a car accident, and one month later the gym is coping slowly.
“She was a really awesome person to know.” said Malachi Watson
Coach Don Carter said, “It was hard to open the gym”,
And with a memorial set up at the gym's front door, they got back to work eventually channeling their sadness into motivation.
Teammate and friend Dakota Buchanan said, “I'm training for sammy now”, and the students of this academy hope she knows that. They tell her in letters that are left in a box at the memorial, other messages to sammy line the walls. Don Carter is organizing a large Wichita based event with teams from all over the midwest, a meet in Sammy's name, something to work toward while these athletes deal with the harsh lessons of life and death.
