Man Involved In WSU Beanball Incident Faces Sex Crime Charges

Reporter: KAKE News

May 25, 2012

A former baseball player involved in an infamous beanball incident in Wichita is accused of sex crimes involving a young girl.

Anthony Molina faces seven counts of sexual abuse after his arrest by Moline, IL police.

In 1999, a Wichita State baseball pitcher hit Molina in the face with a baseball while Molina warmed up in the on deck circle. The incident damaged Molina's vision and ended his baseball career. Molina filed a lawsuit against the pitcher, Ben Christensen. A settlement was reached before the case went to trial. Christensen was suspended for the remainder of the season by the Missouri Valley Conference.

Molina is President of the Quad City Cannons, a youth baseball team.

Molina is accused of sexual assault of the girl on at least two occasions between February and December, 2011. He faces five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Molina is being held on $200,000 bond.
