"Certainly around here I think she has separated herself from any other offensive player in the region in my opinion. I think she has 35 goals and 13 assists on the year. Excuse me, 39 goals and 13 assists... But who's counting?"
If we are counting, it's 14 assists. but how Whitney Lucas has averaged more than two goals per game as a sophomore is beyond even her.
"I'm still shocked but I dont know how Im going to top 39 goals next year. I'm good at reading my midfielders and my pace definitely helps. So that's definitely been a big contribution."
And this soccer star has contributed just as much to a team that lost nine seniors from last year, but is still somehow undefeated.
"It's a lot of fun. In times we get in tight situations but we can always play it out and just have fun with the game."
"It's not all about her. It's about the team and winning and advancing when it comes playoff time. And I think that's what I appreciate most about her."
Advancing at playoff time -that's the idea for our KAKE Sports Athlete of the Week.
"Taking state all the way. That's been our goal since day one and I think this year we have a really good chance at it."
