ESPN Anchor Jonathan Coachman to Speak in Hutchinson

ESPN anchor and former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman is coming to Hutchinson to help support a scholarship fund for Kansas journalism students.



Coachman will be speaking at 7:30 p.m. May 31 at the Encampment Building at the Kansas state fairgrounds, 2000 N. Poplar St. in Hutchinson. Proceeds will go to The Hutchinson News’ Future Journalist Scholarship Program, which annually awards a $1,000 scholarship to a high-school senior planning to study journalism in college.



Tickets can be purchased in advance at The Hutchinson News, 300 W. Second Avenue, at $5 for adults and $1 for children. Tickets bought online at www.hutchnews.com/coach are $7 for adults and $2 for children. A VIP meet-and-greet with Coachman will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for $25, including appetizers and beverages.



Coachman joined ESPN in August 2008 as a sports anchor on the ESPNEWS network. He also served as a host on College Football Live and ESPN Friday Night Fights.

Previously, he served as a sports anchor at the MSG network in New York (2007-2008), KMBC-TV in Kansas City, Mo. (1999-2000), and KAKE-TV in Wichita (1997-1999). He spent eight years working in Stamford, Conn., as a TV announcer for the WWE Company.



Coachman earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from McPherson College and was awarded the basketball conference’s highest honor when he was named KCAC Player of the Year.
