Trial Set For Man Charged With Shooting Puppy

A Cowley County man will faces trial this fall on felony charges of animal cruelty.

Clifford Love, 43, is accused of shooting and killing a neighbor's puppy. Love said he shot the dog after it wandered into his yard. The puppy later died from its injuries.

Newscow reports he is charged under Scruffy's Law, which allows a felony charge to be brought against anyone who intentionally or maliciously kills or injures an animal.

Love's trial is set to begin in September.

According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, In February of 2000, Love was sentenced to prison for aggravated indecent liberties with a child and was paroled in 2005. He also served time for drug possession.
