I lived at the ranch in 1989 - 90. I tried to act tough, tried to keep my guard up, tried to push staffs buttons just to make them mad, and most of all tried to not deal with my problems. It didnt work. The staff (most of them) didnt give up on me. They really cared about me, and they believed in me even when I didnt believe in myself. They were more of a family to me than my own family. I have a wife, 2 sons and 1 daughter. I have a good job (electrician) and I think of "home" / "boys ranch" often, especially at Christmas. To all the staff that helped me, thank you! To county manager Bill Buchanon, please dont look at every kid out there as a life long criminal...most of us just needed someone to expect good things out of us and to teach us how to make good decisions. And to the rest of the commisioners...if you havent ever been to the ranch, please go check it out ...look at the place before you cast your votes. Then ..vote to save a very good program. Thank you.

"Since probably a minimum of 95% of the traffic that uses the bridge is generated by Judge Riddel's Boy's Ranch..." That is quite possibly the most made up and wrong statistic I have ever seen. Lake Afton has about 120K visitors a year...Have you ever been there on a weekend?

IT seems that a number of people feel you are making a mistake in closing the Boys Ranch. IF you would increase the mill levy on property taxes perhaps it would cover the cost. I hope some of the boys have had enough training they will not turn to gangs or a life of crime. In the long run it might prove more expensive than what you are saving.
The majority of cuts you are making will affect the low inome people.

***let's start by cutting the Commisioner's Salaries, CALL FOR THE COUNTY MANAGER'S Resignation, as Commisioner Unruh proposed not too long ago and Replace Mr. bill with the "Not Needed, Waste of Tax $$$$" Assistant County Manager....We have too many High Paid "Top Dogs" with not needed Assistants. Look at all the "Top Dog" Salaries at www.sedgwickcounty.gov,...and does the Appraiser TRUELY need a Chief Deputy and Assistant Chief Deputy?Mark C. Is not Needed!

I knew someone who went to the boys ranch and he told me horror stories about the place. I don't know if what they said is true, but when you put the so called worst together someone has to be at the bottom. This could save a few future lone wolves from being born. -Bravo
