The Kansas City Star reported that airline service into Wichita is subsidized by the federal government. If the "tough guy" conservatives take power, they could end airline travel for Wichita. Furthermore, the trend in airlines is to fly only profitable routes meaning long distance and hub to hub. Many smaller cities have lost airline service. Amtrak would be an alternative.
If you can't afford a car maybe you dont't need to be traveling around. It is not my resposibility to pay for your travels. You have a responsibility to your self.
As of today there is a 90 percent chance The Southwest Chief will be coming thru Wichita no later than 2015, if not sooner. Where are the people going to board and deboard? When it happens there will be only short notice. Be smart, get ready NOW. The 10 percent is the route be dissolved. I reference articles by goolging phrase "BNSF sells railline to New Mexico".
We NEED rail service. There are virtually no buses anymore. And not everyone can afford a car or an airline ticket. How are disadvantaged people supposed to go anywhere?
Traffic in Dallas is terrible.
And then it'll probably get scrapped. That's the mentality in Wichita.
Maybe we should develop the Wichita market to cater to North Texans. What do North Texans want? Space technology?
Wichita council has been "studying" this for at least 5 years that I know of. Either get the rail service, or don't. Stop wasting time and money on "studies"!
The council will spend a few hundred thousand dollars doing a study & then decide they need to do a second study to see if the first study as right.
I support this study in conjunction with Texas. It may give us a way to close that service gap. It could also give us an idea on how people about patrons feel about riding the train north and spending tourist dollars in Wichita.
It be a great idea sending the Amtrak thru here,make it happen..
I guess taking a train to Dallas would be some relief, although you’re still stuck with relying on public transportation, a rental car or friends doing the driving when you got there. I don’t know that you’d necessarily save money. You might end up spending more money if you choose the train root.
I’m in support of it. Go for it. It’ll spur land development projects and economic growth.
