Fire heavily damaged a home in east Wichita Saturday afternoon, while firefighters battled flames and the elements.
Crews responding to the call of the fire near Second Street and Spruce about 4:30 p.m. could see smoke coming from the area. When they arrived, they found fire burning on several stories of the house, said Wichita Fire Department Battalion Chief John Turner.
Firefighters were concerned about the fire spreading to a nearby house, but they were able to keep it contained.
Turner estimated the damage at $100,000. Nobody was in the house when the fire started.
