Teacher, Toy Run Director Dies In Motorcycle Accident

Reporter: KAKE News
Toy Run Organizer Killed In Crash

UPDATE: Tuesday, June 19, 2012

A woman has died after strong winds caused her motorcycle to crash.

The accident happened just after 6 p.m. Monday in southwest Sedgwick County on K-42 about a mile northeast of Viola.

Officials say Holly Potelle, 55, had just left a gas station and was driving slowly down K-42 when a gust of wind pushed her to drive off the road and into a ditch. The motorcycle hit a driveway and Potelle was ejected 30 feet into the air. She fell into the ditch on the other side of the driveway.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find the woman not breathing. They were able to resuscitate her before taking her to a Wichita hospital. Potelle later died from her injuries.

Potelle was the director of the Wichita toy run, a motorcycle ride event
that collects toys for the Salvation Army to distribute to children for Christmas.

Potelle was also a teacher at Harper Elementary. She was listed as a language arts teacher on the U.S.D. 361 website.

KAKE's Jared Cerullo is talking with members of the motorcycle community about Potelle's loss. Watch for his reports on later KAKE newscasts.
