Fort Riley Soldier Charged With Murder In Fellow Soldier's Death

A Fort Riley soldier has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a fellow soldier.
Pvt. John Hughes has been charged with the murder of Pvt. Thomas Lavrey, according a news release from Fort Riley's Public Affairs Office.
Lavrey, a 21-year-old native of West Seneca, N.Y., was found unresponsive in his living quarters on Fort Riley May 14. He was later pronounced dead at Irwin Army Community Hospital.
Hughes is a wheeled vehicle mechanic with Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. He has also been charged with resisting arrest and larceny.
Army officials have not released any further information about the investigation.
Lavrey was utilities equipment repairer assigned to the same unit as Hughes.
