Excellent point Kyle. Nothing like stealing from your neighbors.

I was surprised that she initially plead 'not guilty.' After hearing what evidence they had against her and what a harsh sentence she would get when she was found guilty at trial probably changed her mind immediately. She deserves what she gets for violating the trust of the community.

I live in Neosho County, which is the same county Thayer is in. I was not surprised this was going on, as a few years back a local rural water district, which purchased water through Thayer was accused of being $10,000 short in funds belonging to the city of Thayer. Everyone had been paying their bills and there were no water leaks. Red Flag. Rural water dist. # 5 does not get water from Thayer any more. As for the clerk, I am sad she had to get so greedy. She was fortunate to have a job she only had to drive a few blocks to, and she always lived in a nice house and drove nice cars, as her husband made good money for years.

Truly sad situation for the community. Too many communities have entrusted their funds to someone who knows how to circumvent the system, thankfully, in this case, the perpetrator was caught and prosecuted. I just wish that this kind of fraud was caught and publicized and prosecuted more often rather than our embarrassed bureaucrats hiding it and giving a deal to keep it quiet.
