So you are saying there is not any expense that goes into planting the corn? Do you see the farmers selling directly to the supermarkets? It takes more than just the cost of the actual kernal to plant.

They "intentinally" went onto someone else's property, they "intentionally" ran through the field causing considerable damage, they "intentionally" drank while underage. There was a time when if you hit a baseball through someone's window, you knew it your responsibility to fix it even if the damage was not "intentional". The same goes for damage to property.

$6000.... BS.... unless they decimated an entire field... Corn is frigging cheap people.... think about it... A full plant.. maybe 4 ears of corn... $4.00 in your local supermarket.... the way you are making it sound makes a plant worth $40...

People don't raise their children anymore to respect others. I would be horrfied if my child did this. Simply disrespectful

Where I'm from, kids understand not to ruin farm fields. I'm surprised 100-150 kids in this community don't. I think $6000 is probably conservative, considering seed, labor, and fuel costs; the growing season is speeding along as well. A crops farmer can't make his growing window longer. These kids definitely need to pay restitution and labor on some farms to learn some respect for hard work.

I wish they had had this when I was at South! I would have been right there!

I am a parent of a teen that decided not to go to the event. It is an annual tradition between the sophomores and juniors at South High School the night of seniors last day. We discussed it together and how bad things can happen when a large number of teens get together unsupervised. She is glad she didn't go. Hopefully everyone learns a lesson from this.

I guess most people don't understand the cost of planting corn. All those kids stepping on the plants would kill it. The kids should have to pay for the damage and maybe make them work on a farm for a week or two and then they might have a little more respect for farmers. People that don't understand that shouldn't post on here.

You aren't a very bright person. It wasn't the act of a water balloon fight that caused the damage. It was the location. You can't walk all over plants that are trying to grow.

Yea, it was them trampling all over the newly planted corn. Go plant some flowers and then walk all over them as they start to grow and see how they fare. Doing this in a yard or a field after harvest won't cause damage, but stay out of a freshly planted field

Since the kids did the damage, the kids or their parents should pay restitution.... or, better yet, let them go work that field and clean it up, and get the ground ready again. If they think it's too much work, they can get their friends to help repair it. Especially since their friends are the ones who helped damage it.

It would be the same if someone damaged a work truck or warehouse building. You just don't understand this was a family's property and livelihood.

Really? And where did you get your opinion from? Obviously you have no clue as to what the damage was or how much will have to be done to prepare this field. You should really get your information prior to writing an opinion that shows your ignorance.

Exactly.

I saw the damage... the field was trampled by PEOPLE not damaged by the balloons. We could also talk about all the drug paraphernalia that was found. Wow.... and these kids actually graduated.
