My heart goes out to the family. Some things are hard to understand, but i do believe God has a reason for everything. You can put your kids in a bubble and protect them, but is that how you really want for them to live? It sounds like this young boy was doing something he loved when he died....please stop placing blame and start putting love and prayers in your hearts. You would want the same respect if something happened to the people you love the most in this world.

I am sorry to Stephanie that there are idiots posting stupid things...I do not know the families of this tragedy...but I know it was an accident...my prayers to both families

I hadn't thought about it, but you really can tell can't you? I grew up in a small community and wouldn't trade it for anything. I like certain aspects of living in Wichita, but I really do miss the small town community. There's just so much more heart in the small towns.

It would be nice to know the details of this accident. In the way I have been trained to handle firearms in the field, I can't see how I could ever accidently shoot someone... identify target, finger never on the trigger and always on safe, always point in safe direction.. and so on. If the reports would shed light on how this accident occured, that might help to prevent future events like this.

My son and I had the pleasure of meeting and hunting with both of these fine young men this past November. They are both well mannered and respectful boys with the best of families. We send our deepest sympathy to the families and friends.

After reading some of these comments it's obvious who's from the rural, close knit, and family oriented communities and who's from the cities where the don't see how things work out here. They don't realize that the rural areas are the backbone of this country and this economy, and sometimes it's nice to get out and hunt like people had to before we became so industrialized, but just like basically everything, it comes with a risk

Please keep it positive. I didn't know Mitch or his friend very well but I do know that it was an ACCIDENT! (they happen to everybody. This one just had a worse outcome) I know his friend is VERY sorry but their community and our surrounding communities are really pulling together

My last name is Hermreck... Now you know why. Please don't ask me to chill, I am not hateful toward you. I am just saying. I think you now understand why I am so strong on my opinion. Our entire family is very strick on how we handle guns and how our kids handle guns. And for someone to go and say the parents are at fault when they dont know them or dont know the details, it is just cruel and uncalled for. Rest in Peace Mitchell. We Will always Love and Miss you!

Praying for the family and this friend that accidentally shot him. What a hard road ahead. Hang in there and let God hold you.

Maybe put their feelings into consideration! THIS FAMILY IS PROBABLY THE STERNEST FAMILY YOU WILL EVER KNOW ABOUT GUN SAFETY! ACCIDENTS HAPPEN!! HAVE A HEART AND HAVE SUPPORT! OR KEEP YOUR OPINION AND CRUEL COMMENTS TO YOURSELF!!

Until you know all the details, please don't pass judgment. I know the family, it was an accident pure and simple. This was not a little boy, he was in high school. He was supervised, his father was with him. His father should NOT be charged with murder!
