Age restrictions don't keep adults from making mistakes, including having tragic accidents while hunting. And accidents can happen in almost any activity and even if you are taking all of the recommended precautions. One good thing that can come from this tragedy now though, is we can all try to raise awareness of gun and hunting safety so that other people don't get hurt.

Sorry, but you are definitely wrong about that. Perhaps you are confusing it with the use of honor where the 'h' is silent. The rule is that if the first sound is that of a consonant you use 'a' (e.g. a hero, a horror, etc. ) If the first sound is that of a vowel you use 'an' (e.g. an honor). And by the way, in order to be a hero one has to have behaved heroically, such as rushing into a burning building to save others. Is that what you meant?

I agree you 'Unfortunate'. While it is a horrible tragedy, some of us who hunt and handle firearms want to try to learn from accidents like this so that perhaps future accidents might be avoided. I am assuming this is probably a spring turkey hunt and therefore one or all in this hunting party were camouflaged. Stephanie, do you mind discussing it a little so that we might learn from this tragic incident? We know that Gus went through hunter safety classes as we all did and therefore was aware of the proper procedures and risks. So my question is, how does something like this happen? What can I do to avoid it happening to me or my kids?

No, the correct article for "hero" is "an". It's been documented over 9000 times.

My heart and prayers go to the family and friends of this young man. If it was my time to die, I would love for the time to be when I was doing something I loved. I think it is absolutely great for young people to involved in a past time of hunting and or fishing as opposed to running the streets, doing drugs or sitting in front of a stupid gamebox all of the time. Life is not promised and yes too many are taken too young for most human minds to accept. God bless this family.

Obviously you have never been hunting! These animals have a pretty good chance.

That is such a dumb comment. Almost everyone in kansas owns guns and the vast majority die from something else. And get your facts strait! Guns dont kill people. Bullets Do!

If it werent for the supermarkets all those city folks would die killing each other because they would be starving. One day the world will be a different place and they will be doomed!

well, I guess things happen by accident but putting guns in childrens' hands is a different story....shouldnt ever put guns in childrens' possession. Parents, when are you going to learn?

The primary purpose of guns is to shoot something that is living. Most of the time that is intentional, but at times it is an accident. No one is shot if no guns are at the scene.
