Arsenal Of Weapons Stolen In Home Burglary

Friday, May 4, 2012

Dozens of deadly weapons are in the hands of criminals after a home burglary near Mulvane. The weapons were stolen March 21, but so far, Sedgwick County investigators haven't been able to solve the case.

Investigators are anxious to find the thieves and more importantly get those weapons off the streets. Officials say the thieves got away with a large collection of knives and nearly two dozen firearms.

In March, thieves kicked in the front door of a on South Anthony Lane and made off with thousands of dollars worth of valuables. The burglars took some computers and jewelry boxes, but Sedgwick County Sheriff Captain Greg Pollock what really has investigators on edge is the theft of more than 70 deadly weapons, including a mix of handguns, shot guns and rifles.

"That's a lot of guns to hit the streets at one time," Pollock said.

Pollock says finding each and every one of those firearms is a high priority.

"Whether the criminals planned to sell them or pawn them or whatever, that's a dangerous situation for law enforcement and the community as a whole because now we have all these weapons and we don't know what hands they're going to fall into," Captain Pollock said.

Investigators are also trying to track down about 50 knives. Most of them were collectibles that were stolen out of display cases in the home. Just like the guns, Pollock says each knife that is out on the street is a potential threat to law enforcement officers.

If you have any information on this crime you're asked to call Sedgwick County Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office at 1-800-874-6449.
