Power Nearly Restored After Weekend Tornado

Reporter: KAKE News

Thursday, April 19, 2012

Power has been restored to nearly all Westar Energy customers who were left in the dark following the weekend’s severe storms.

The electric company said only six residents in Sedgwick County remain without power Thursday afternoon. About 26,500 customers lost power Saturday night as a tornado and thunderstorms struck Wichita.

Westar said more than 400 people worked around the clock trying to restore power over the last five days.

Customers still without power are asked to check for damage to their meter box, have necessary repairs made by a licensed electrician, and then call Westar’s outage reporting line at 1-800-LIGHT-KS. In addition, if customers do not plan to return to their tornado damaged property, Westar would like for them to call our Customer Relations Center at 1-800-383-1183 so that can be noted.
