But he said to them, "Is there a man among you who, if he had one sheep and it fell into a ditch on the Sabbath, wouldn't take hold of it and pull it out? Matthew 12:11 Then he asked them, "If one of you has a son or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull him out?" Luke 14:5 (New International Version) If it is good enough for son, oxen, and sheep, I would think it was good enough for a dog even all these many years later. Dogs (and other pets) serve an important role. They are protectors, companions, and friends to many. Medical evidence shows that people who pet dogs/cats, etc. are healthier. If you are not a “pet person” that is fine, but don’t degrade the importance of these animals to others. “Way to GO” to the fire department personnel who cared enough to do this.

This is not the first time the owner has taken the dog off his leash on their walks. He used let the dog run loose through Cottonwood Park until the day my dog went through our fence after it. Looks like he's just moved the walk area a bit farther north. Hope he gets a ticket and a bill from the city. Maybe then he'll really be a responsible pet owner.

As a dog owner why was this dog not on a leash, if the owner cared enough to take the dog for a walk then care enough to have him leashed so he could not have bolted when the thunder started and none of this would have happened, I'm surprised the city isn't crying to have the dog put to sleep--shame on the owner if your dog had been secured none of this would have happened.

Very well said. I don't understand the anger from some people who can't see the whole picture, let alone having compassion for anything that would suffer a horrible death.

This dog sounds like mine. She gets spooked at the slightest things and then there's no getting through! lol. Glad these people took time out to do something like this and even more so, understand that animals in those situations react out of fear.

Bill, wait until you get bit by a rabid skunk & then see who pays the bill for animal control to catch the skunk. My life has been saved by my dog letting my wife know I had a heart attack several times. Just go back to doing your Yadda yadda yadda dance & watchout for skunks.

Sorry that he has to be quarantined. Maybe the owner should move to El Dorado where a police officer's dog can bite someone while it's running at large and the police officer doesn't even get ticketed, or have to pay for the injuries it caused.
