Kobach Plans Archery Contest For Kids

Reporter: Associated Press

Monday, April 9, 2012

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is planning an archery tournament for children later this month on the grounds of the governor's official residence.

The Ad Astra Archery Tournament is scheduled for April 21 at MacLennan Park in Topeka, which surrounds Cedar Crest, the governor's residence.

The tournament is open to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Kobach, a hunter, says there will also be other activities, such as fishing in the ponds in the park.

The event also is being sponsored by Fort Hays State University and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. The tournament takes its name from the state motto, "Ad Astra per
Aspera," Latin for, "To the Stars with Difficulty."
