Sleeping Drug In Kerry Kennedy's System

Reporter: Associated Press

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

A person in law enforcement says the sleeping drug Ambien was found in Kerry Kennedy's blood after her recent New York auto accident.

The ex-wife of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and daughter of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy said a week ago that her doctors thought a seizure caused the July 11 accident. She said their tests found no alcohol, recreational drugs or prescription medication in her system.

She acknowledged she told a police officer she might have taken an Ambien by accident instead of thyroid medication.

The person in law enforcement told The Associated Press the Ambien was found in a blood test taken for police. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the results have not been made public.

A call to her lawyer was not immediately returned.
