Construction of the Kansas Star Casino is continuing to move forward, as well as bringing more than $100 million to Kansas-based contractors.

The $329 million development is one of the largest building projects currently underway in Kansas. Peninsula Gaming, the management company investing in construction of the casino, has awarded construction contracts, totaling more than $109 million since commencing construction in March 2011.

With the main casino building now fully enclosed, work has moved inside as workers install electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. Construction of the 150 room Hampton Inn is also on schedule.

"This type of large-scale, multi-phase construction project doesn't come along very often," said Bill Quaney, Executive Vice President of Wichita-based electrical contractor Linder & Associates. "The Kansas Star arrived just in time to spark a much-needed shot in the arm to the Kansas construction industry."

The Kansas Star project has also spurred a growing number of additional construction investments. The Mulvane Waste Water Treatment Plant is entering its second phase of improvements. Kansas Star is providing the City of Mulvane with approximately $13.6 million toward the improvements to the existing plant which benefits both the Kansas Star and all residents of Mulvane. In addition, Mulvane is proceeding with the design and construction of an additional fire station, which will serve both the city and Kansas Star.

"We are right on schedule," says John Gratz, Director of Construction for the Kansas Star. "Both the Kansas Star and the surrounding communities are seeing rapid growth and improvements."
