Derby Woman Recovering From Motorcycle Accident

Reporter: KAKE News

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

A Derby woman was critically hurt in a motorcycle accident in Butler County. The accident happened Sunday just before noon on Highway 177 at NE 70th Street.

Sheriff Kelly Herzet says the 33-year-old motorcycle rider was heading southbound on Highway 177 when she lost control on a bridge over a railroad track. The rider slid across the guardrail and was ejected off the bridge. She fell 35 feet and landed under the bridge by the railroad track.

Herzet says the woman landed in a pile of cut tree limbs that helped soften the fall. She broke both legs and her collar bone and was flown to a Wichita hospital in critical condition. She has since been upgraded to fair condition.

Herzet says the victim was heading home from the monthly motorcycle rally in Cassoday. The accident is under investigation.
