The lawyer for a Las Vegas mother accused of killing her 6-year-old daughter with scissors says her client is expected to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
Deputy Clark County public defender Andrea Luem has said 27-year-old Danielle Yvonne Slaughter will enter the plea Thursday during a first appearance in state court.
Slaughter was hospitalized after she was found naked and bloody March 11 on a street near her home. Police later found the girl dead in the house.
Slaughter told police the blood was from the "lamb of God" and that she stabbed the girl after she spoke and laughed "in an evil voice."
Slaughter faces a murder charge that could put her in prison for the rest of her life.
