Sedgwick county leaders signed off on construction plans for overpass aimed at decreasing traffic congestion in west Wichita.

Commissioners voted 3-2 in favor of the 13th street bypass project Wednesday morning. The measure gives the City of Wichita right of way for the project. Commissioners Richard Ranzau and Karl Peterjohn voted against the proposal, saying the I-235 and Kellogg overhaul should begin first.

The overpass will connect 13th street to west Wichita, over the big ditch. About 30,000 vehicles travel the route daily.
