This time last year, Andy Mullen was employed as an engineer at Cessna. As business plunged, Mullen was one of many aircraft workers who were laid off.
"We were there during the height of aircraft and everything was booming and then we could start to see everything slide and then all of a sudden everything was falling apart all around us,” Mullen said.
Mullen turned his layoff into a chance to pursue a dream.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own computer business,” he said.
Today, Mullen opened “Technidream” in Derby where he will sell computers and accessories, as well as build and service them. Experts say this response to the economic downturn is not uncommon.
Dr. Tim Pett, Director of WSU’s Center for Entrepreneurship says a lot of businesses, such as Southwest Airlines and Microsoft, were started in a downturn.
