There are many children in Kansas who are spending the summer without the stability they deserve. That's because they don't have a family. One of those children is 11-year-old Desi. Desi is a budding scientist. And we had a blast at Exploration Place.

Desi and I "follow the clues" in the immersive, interactive, blockbuster traveling exhibit, "CSI: The Experience" at Exploration Place. The fourth grader watches a lot of CSI shows. "I actually know what I want to be when I grow up," Desi said. "I want to be a professor of science."

Remember, Desi said from the beginning of our "crime scene" investigation that a .45 caliber gun was used in the crime. "How did you know," I asked. "It's just my eye is the size of the shot," Desi explained.

So, Desi is good at solving things. One problem he can't solve? He hasn't had a family in two years. "What's the worst part about being in foster care," I asked Desi. "You don't have an actual family," he said. "They are just your foster family. I miss everything...like my own dog."

When asked what kind of family he wants, he is not picky. Just a family, he said. And Desi has an incredibly unselfish answer when asked what he says to God in his prayers every night. "Thank you for what you have done...what you have done for me...for keeping me safe," Desi prays.
