“19 calories I have burned off and I’m still going.”

Lane and Dakota couldn’t wait to get on the machines. They are exercising machines with energy that filled the room.

And so it went, the battle of who could curl, press or pull more weight. 8-year-old Lane had the more determined face. But, 10-year-old Dakota wasn’t about to let her brother win.

“I don’t know,” Dakota said. “It might be pretty close.”

Pretty close is exactly what Dakota and Lane are. They never want to be separated and there’s several reasons why.

“He likes to work on bikes,” Dakota said.

“And I can fix her bike whenever she gets a flat tire or her chain breaks off,” Lane said.

“And he likes to go fishing with me,” Dakota said.

“Oh, brother…” Lane said.

The soon to be fifth grader and third grader have been in six different foster homes in just four years. But, that hasn’t damped their ambitions.

Dakota wants to be a teacher or a nurse. Lane wants a mechanic, but his immediate desire is brought up quickly.

“But , I want a new forever family,” Lane said.

But, both Lane and Dakota want to go to a forever family together.

“Because we love each other,” Dakota said

“We might miss each other and start crying,” Lane said.
