There are hundreds of kids in Kansas who are starting off their summer without the most important thing for summer vacation – a family. 10-year-old Zach wants to go to college and have a career. But, if he’s still in the system when he turns 18, he knows those plans will never be.

Ten-year-old Zach in heaven at the Sedgwick County Zoo, loving every minute of feeding the giraffes.

This soon to be fifth grader’s favorite subject in school is math and science of course.

But, this nearly straight A student is also a sponge. He wants to learn everything he can.

Zach wants to be an oceanographer when he grows up, but he knows he’ll never make it to college as a foster child.

“I wanna get adopted really, so I have a perfect home, so I don’t keep moving around and when I turn 18 I would just go, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m out of it.”

Zach’s been in foster care for six years and has been in 11-12 foster homes.

With a quick smile and incredible brown eyes, Zach’s acharmer and doesn’t ask for much from a forever Mom and Dad.
