Christmas has gone to the dogs.
For many pet owners, their four-legged friends are dearly loved members of the family. And when it comes to holiday shopping, even pets are showered with lavish gifts.
Bradley’s Bones helps take the bite out of shopping. The Wichita business started in 2003, after Leah Bradley decided to make her own gourmet treats for her mother’s dog.
“I’ve always loved dogs from the time I can remember,” Bradley said. “When my mother’s dog got cancer, this just fell together.”
Her friend, Jan Wesley, helps with the biscuit baking business. But Bradley’s family helps pack and ship products to customers.
“I was looking for another job,” Wesley said. “She asked me if I would convert my garage into a bakery, and of course I readily agreed to do that.”
Bradley said even pet owners are barking about the hand-made treats.
“They scream at me and tell me that their dog loves me and that is my favorite part of this whole business,” she said.
The gourmet goodies are also sold in Towne East and Towne West at the Kansas Store.
