WICHITA, Kan. -- Joy Donahue has been growing her hair out for 10 years, but today she cut it all off to show support for her friend with cancer.
Joy Knox has two types of cancer, melanoma and two brain tumors. The treatment has left her without any hair on her head. Knox has been battling cancer for three years and the medical cost is high.
"Sometimes I feel like it is a roller-coaster, trying to figure out how to stop the bleeding in the main area, where there is a tumor about the size of a golf ball," Knox said, "its kind of depressing."
An event on Saturday was held to help raise support and money for Knox. There was a car wash at the Spangles parking lot at Pawnee and Seneca. In addition there was a place to donate hair to Locks-Of-Love, an organization that accepts donated hair and turns it into wigs for cancer patients.
The total proceeds of the event was around $400.
