Woman kidnapped from parking lot of Wichita-area YMCA

WICHITA, Kan. — Police are searching for the suspect who kidnapped a woman from the parking lot of Wichita area YMCA.

It happened around 9:15 p.m. Sunday at the YMCA located in the 3400 block of South Meridian. According to police, a 19-year-old woman was sitting in her car talking on the phone when a man got into the passenger seat.

He then ordered to woman to drive around, which lasted approximately 30 minutes before he instructed her to drop him off at a Walmart store on West Kellogg. She was not hurt, and called police when he went inside.

Police have not yet located the suspect, but believe they know his identity. Moments before the woman was abducted, an officer tried to stop a vehicle near I-235 and Meridian but the man got out and ran away.
