A woman claims she was robbed at gunpoint by a man in a police uniform early Friday morning in southeast Wichita.
"My concern is that there could be an imposter our there who is posing as a police officer," Lt. Doug Nolte of the Wichita Police Department said.
A 25-year-old woman told police that she was pulled over around 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 900 block of South Doreen. She said a man in a Wichita police uniform approached her car and asked for her ID and registration.
"When she was getting that, (she says) he produced a gun and put it to her head," Nolte said.
The woman says the man robbed her, taking her money, ID and vehicle registration. The woman said he also tried to order her out of her car, but that she refused.
After the man left, she called 911 and told officers who responded that he was driving a dark colored Crown Victoria with lights on the dash.
"It alarms me," said Mike Shepler who lives on S. Doreen. "I don't want to be pulled over by a fictitious police officer."
Wichita Police say they didn't have any units in that area at the time this allegedly occurred.
"We could not find anyone who could corroborate her story or say that it didn't happen either," Nolte said.
The incident is under investigation.
