MAIZE, Kan. -- School days are getting a little longer at one Wichita-area district because of winter weather earlier this month.
Today, an email was sent to parents of Maize USD 266 students. As a result of snow days from February 4 through 6, the district needs to make up a shortfall of school hours.
To do so, the district is extending the daily school schedule by five minutes. The change will go into effect on the Monday following Spring Break for all Maize elementary, middle and high school students. Each school will then dismiss five minutes later than the current schedule.
According to a district spokesperson, adding the time to the end of each school day will prevent the need to add an additional day at the end of the school year. If more snow days need to be taken, however, additional days will be added to the school schedule.
