Wichita Hobby Lobby stores benefited from "Hobby Lobby Appreciation Day."
The day was called for by former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. The effort is similar to Huckabee's call for support for Chick-Fil-A after it received sharp criticism over the owner's opposition to gay marriage.
Hobby Lobby is currently fighting the federal government over the Affordable Care Act contraceptive mandate. The law requires that employee insurance plans must include birth control coverage.
Even though the cost would be covered by insurance companies, Hobby Lobby sued saying the mandate violated the company's religious rights. It faces a $1.3 million per day fine for not complying with the mandate.
